TRANSCRIPT OF LIVE RADIO INTERVIEW:-

INTERVIEWER: Well, there's a new show in town and it's a beauty. It's a tribute to the country supergroup, The Highwaymen. The Highwaymen were Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Kris Kristofferson and Waylon Jennings and the band toured New Zealand and Australia back in the early Nineties. Canadian born international performer and producer of the show, Dail Platz, is in the studio with us now. Dail also participates in the Highwaymen Show, along with Paul Mostyn and Brent Lillie.

DAIL: For those unfamiliar with The Highwaymen, the group has been called the country equivalent of the Beatles. The four members, Willie Nelson, Kris Kristofferson, Johnny Cash and Waylon Jennings wrote some of country's greatest tunes.

INTERVIEWER: There's some big names in that lineup, Dail. Some great songs, too. Can we expect to hear a lot of their best known tunes?

DAIL: Well, Brent Lillie does a great Kris Kristofferson and Paul Mostyn does a wonderful job as Waylon Jennings, and yes, the audience can expect to hear many of their best known compositions. There's Folsom Prison Blues, Help me Make it Through the Night and On the Road Again, along with Highwaymen classics like Deperadoes Waiting for a Train, Silver Stallion and Live Forever. Forty fantastic songs in all.

INTERVIEWER: Paul, you play Waylon, and the resemblance is certainly noticeable. Are you a fan of his music?

PAUL: It's an honour for me to play the part of Waylon in the show. I grew up loving this type of music and for me performing in the Highwaymen Tribute is a dream come true. Electric and acoustic guitar, banjo, fiddle, mandolin and harmonica are all featured in the show. By the end of the night the entire audience is clapping, singing along and yelling out for more. After the show we always mingle with the crowd for a chat and for photos. Ours is the only genuine Highwaymen Tribute in Australia. Waylon Jennings said that the Highwaymen tours were 'all about the songs' and we maintained the same philosophy for the show. It's a true tribute – a labour of love.

INTERVIEWER: Brent, I hear you and your band members travel a few highways yourselves. The show is based on the Gold Coast. Have you taken the show on the road yet?

BRENT: So far we've performed all over Queensland and have ventured into NSW. Demand for the show will shortly see us travelling further afield. The show is steadily gathering momentum and popularity as people discover just what a wonderful production it is. Dail, Paul and I have put our hearts and souls into this production.

INTERVIEWER: The show is based on The Highwaymen's live concert performances, is that correct?

BRENT: That's right. The true Highwaymen fans love the show because it includes all their favourite songs and because we recreate the look and feel of a real Highwaymen Concert. To do this we based a lot of the song arrangements and stage presentation around the 1990 DVD of the Highwaymen performing live at Long Island's Nassau Stadium. We even designed our backdrop around the one they used on that tour.

INTERVIEWER: Dail, I'd imagine the show would appeal to young and old. The outlaw image is universal and the four members of The Highwaymen were branded outlaws themselves, in the sense that they broke away from the traditional Nashville scene?

DAIL: That's true. Willie, Johnny, and Waylon in particular were the outlaws and they created a whole new sound. Waylon even wrote a song called 'Are You Sure Hank Done it that Way' as a personal protest against the traditional Nashville sound, and that song is included in the show.

INTERVIEWER: Did you do much research when you were putting the show together?

DAIL: We were six months in pre-production and rehearsal. It was all about finding the right tunes and discovering the best way to present the show to an audience. Overall, we feel that The Highwaymen Tribute is a very well-rounded and marketable presentation. It's about the band itself, and the four great songwriters that were it's members. If you love the music of Johnny Cash, you'll love the show. Same goes for those who are fans of Kris, Willie or Waylon.

INTERVIEWER: Paul, where can people find out more about the Highwaymen Tribute Show?

PAUL: We have our own website at www.highwaymenshow.com with an online General Store, Gig Guide, booking information and lots more.

INTERVIEWER: Dail, a final word?

DAIL:
For almost three hours the audience will be whisked away on a trip to a Golden Era and experience the next best thing to being at a Highwaymen concert. People who were lucky enough to see the Highwaymen are constantly telling us this - that our show recreates that magic moment in their lives.Again, we'd urge everyone to come along to catch the show and to come up and say hello afterwards. And no need to worry, we never take our guns to town.
